The Naso, also known as Teribe, have been the inhabitants of the mountainous jungle region of Panama's northwestern corner since long before Spanish colonists arrived on the shores of Central America. Today, the remaining Naso live in 11 small communities along the Teribe River, amidst the lush jungle of La Amistad International Park.

UNESCO recognized in 2018 the Painted Hat as an example of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Intangible Cultural Heritage is a term used for knowledge, traditions and rituals that permeate the daily life of a community and form an intrinsic part of its identity and culture. In the village of La Pintada, artisans cultivate the plants, work the raw material and braid the fibers to make this hat that is used throughout the country. We will visit La Pintada in the province of Cocle where we will learn the techniques of making the Pintado hat.
